About Shree Swami Samarth and the Trust

Shree Swami Samarth Maharaj is revered as the third incarnation of Lord Dattatreya (after Shripad Shri Vallabha and Shri Narasimha Saraswati). He settled in Akkalkot around 1856 and resided for about 22 years, mainly at the home of devotee Cholappa.

On 30 April 1878 he took Mahasamadhi. The shrine complex, including the sacred Vatavruksha (banyan tree), became a major pilgrimage centre. Free general darshan and annadan continue in that tradition.
